The Perfect Songs for Any Mood

The Perfect Songs for Any Mood

By Contributor

We share Sparkler SHOELACEx3's fondness for full-on solo dance parties, and we've been known to croon into a hairbrush or two (or a hundred). We loved her song suggestions for prepping for a party or getting our hearts smashed into a locker—and we think you will too! —SparkNotes editors

Who here has ever danced in their room with the music so loud it shook the walls after a particularly emotional day? I know I have, hairbrush microphone and all. How about when you find the perfect song that, for some indescribable reason, seems to define your day? My favorite thing about iPod shuffle is finding those songs and going, "OMGIZZLE!" and breaking out into a full-on dance party in my bedroom (don't judge, I know you all do the same). Here are some of the songs that can match my mood perfectly:

Mood: Excited for a party
Song: Hello Brooklyn by All Time Low. Sure it's about the world ending, but it's about a party when the world ends! I don't know about you, but I would totally party with All Time Low on my last day... I mean, have you SEEN THEM? Ahem…anyway...

Mood: Ecstatic (because your crush just asked you out—or glanced at you while walking through the hallway, which is practically the same thing)
Song: Animal by Kei$ha. Kei$ha's songs are the most fun songs to listen to on my whole playlist (and I have a HUGE playlist)! This song perfectly fits that feeling you experience when your crush looks at you. Just listening to the first beat of this song makes me jump up and down like a crazy person (assuming that I'm not already doing that...)

Mood: Dreamy (and dreaming of your crush)
Song: When I Look At You by Miley Cyrus. Yes, I like Miley Cyrus and I’m not scared to admit it! Sure, she may forget to wear pants on some occasions, but her songs are amazing! And did you see The Last Song? This song was in it and I was tempted to stand up on my chair and sing along! I didn't, but I will admit to belting it out with my friends on the ride home. Anyway, this song is so cute and perfect for that swoony omg-he/she-is-amazing feeling.

Mood: Stressed to the max
Song: Can't Go Back Now by The Weepies. Don't you abhor (yay vocab word!) those days when you have so much schoolwork that you feel like you are going to explode and then explode again? I know I do. This song is perfect for times when all you want to do is go back to elementary school, where a lot of homework meant two worksheets instead of one, and fights between friends last as long as recess. I think my play count for this song might be in the thousands...

Mood: Lonely
Song: What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost by Taking Back Sunday. The perfect song for those times when it seems like EVERYBODY is having a bad day, and you're the one stuck listening to their problems while nobody even asks why you have that giant stain on your new shirt or gum in your hair.
The Outside by Taylor Swift. This is another good song for feeling alone, but it's more for when you just want to wave your arms frantically in the face of the person ignoring you and scream, "HI I STILL EXIST!!!"

Mood: Brokenhearted
Song: Song In My Head by Sherwood. There are endless songs for breakups, but this is one of my absolute favorites. It's definitely for you if you think the breakup was your own fault, which is a terrible feeling. But it helps to know those adorable guys from Sherwood feel the same way!

Do you have certain songs for certain moods?
