Music for Every Type of Weather

Music for Every Type of Weather

Is the entire world gray today, or just NYC? We definitely need to hit up shanghainyc114's "light rain" mix. —SparkNotes editors

I don't know about you guys, but my music mood depends on the weather. Unfortunately, I live in a city that's a little bipolar when it comes to weather, so I have a lot of mood swings. When it's sunny, it's going to be optimistic music that's playing on my iPod. When it's snowing, it's Christmas music. I categorized rain into two sections (yes, I categorize weather): light and heavy rain. I've put together the perfect spring playlist—some songs for rain and sunshine:

Light Rain
1. "Big City Dreams" by Never Shout Never
The lyrics make me want to escape and leave this city—a city that's annoying because it can't commit to one type of weather. This is also the perfect song for staring out the window and daydreaming about your perfect utopia.

2. "Sparks" by Coldplay
The tap of light rain probably makes you a little drowsy. So why not chill out with this song? There's not much to it in the lyrics department, but the slow strum of the guitar will surely make you chillaxed. It's perfect for snuggling up in a blanket and drinking hot cocoa.

3. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" by John Mayer
The guitar in this song is irresistible. It is also irresistible to fall asleep to, which is why it's been categorized into the Light Rain chill out mix—it's very hypnotic. The guitar, which oscillates between intense and light, makes me feel as if I'm getting sleepy... very, very... sleepy.

Heavy Rain
1. "Miserable at Best" by Mayday Parade
It's raining cats and dogs out. It's like the sky is crying. And just as yawning is infectious, so is crying. It makes you want to crawl into a corner and tear up a bit. Maybe you're reminiscing over a death or a breakup, but if you're going to be miserable, according to this song, be miserable at best. Here's a tissue to get you through the next two songs.

2. "Fix You" by Coldplay
"When you try your best but you don't succeed..." How many times have you taken a test that you thought you were going to ace, but it came back as a B or worse? It feels pretty bad. This song covers many things that can go wrong in a normal life that need to be, well, fixed.

3. "Someday You Will Be Loved" by Death Cab for Cutie
So the love of life left you. Welcome back to Singlesville. Don't cry though. According to this song, someday you will be loved. Even if you're in your 90s, you will be loved. Seriously though, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sunny
1. "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles
I know. A little obvious, but who can't help but to listen to this song when it's sunny? Go ahead and blast this burst of optimism through your speakers. After all, smiles are contagious.

2. "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz
This song pretty much sums up that happy feeling you get when you're chilling on the beach and tanning like there's no tomorrow. And maybe you get those butterflies when you're listening to this song while thinking about that special someone.

3. "Halo / Walking on Sunshine" from Glee
Yes, I'm a Glee addict. Who can't smile when they see all that yellow that the Glee girls were wearing during the song? This song was definitely mashed for a sunny day.

What's your favorite song for every type of weather?
