The P&F website puts us in a trance. We're obsessed. Thanks, jonanners, for this fantastic blog post! —SparkNotes editors
Is there a Sparkler out there who doesn't adore Phineas's triangle-shaped head and Ferb's awesome mechanical skills? The Disney TV series Phineas and Ferb has inspired us, encouraged our imaginations, and gotten us to sing ("Gitchee, Gitchee, Goo," anyone?).
If by some chance you haven't seen Phineas and Ferb, here's what you're missing:
1. Super-amazing inventions: A lot of American kids don’t make the most out of the summer. Phineas and Ferb do. Every day, they do something that normal kids their age don’t usually do—make time machines, spaceships, roller coasters, even fighting tree houses.
They never run out of ideas, and they always do something every kid would dream about. They somehow find the materials, do the blueprints, and find the time to do it. (I still wonder how they can get those materials for free. Even air costs money these days.) They are simply magical. You cannot deny it.
2. Catchy tunes: Every song on the series is quirky and so addictive. These music scenes aren’t random like other musicals (I’m looking at you, High School Musical). These musical scenes actually make sense, and they don’t stick to just peppy pop, they experiment with different genres!
3. Perry the Platypus: A super secret agent platypus. Do I need to say more? Well, I will, anyway. This little critter is Phineas’ and Ferb’s pet platypus. Once Perry whips on his detective hat, he becomes an agent for The O.W.C.A. and no one can stop him.
Behind the main plot between Phineas and Ferb, there’s always Perry the Platypus battling Dr. Doofinshmirtz, his arch nemesis. This man is clueless and eccentric, not necessarily evil, although he usually tries to get (misplaced) revenge for something that happened to him in the past. Doofinshmirtz creates some super crazy invention with a name that has "–inator" at the end of it, invites Perry to see it, traps him, and talks about his past, every time.
Meanwhile, Perry escapes, kicks his butt like Chuck Norris, and sends Doofinshmirtz flying while he yells, “Curse you, Perry the Platypus!” Perry never fails to return to his owners or blows his cover. Never.
4. Candace Flynn: Her ultimate goal in life: Bust her brothers (P&F) and get together with the love of her life, Jeremy. Candace ALWAYS tries to find a way to ruin her brothers' missions. Apparently she doesn’t have much of an appreciation for her little brothers’ inventions, even if they can save the world. Way to go Candace.
Still, Candace is fun to watch. She gets ultra nervous when around Jeremy, and always tries her best to impress him. She even tried to find a perfect outfit for seeing him, but she ends up in same clothes, wondering why didn’t she choose something else. (What is up with cartoon characters always wearing the same thing every day? Don't they ever have to wash their clothes?).
We can all find a little bit of Candace in us, whether we relate on the obsessive crush level or just want to get our younger sibs in trouble. When it comes to Phineas and Ferb, we end up loving even the most selfish characters because each one kinda fills a part of our hearts.
