A Day in the Life of a Fine Arts School Girl
Sparkler InSaNiTyIsHeRe has a pretty cool schedule. We would have loved to take theater and dance in high school! —SparkNotes editors
I go to a Fine Arts school, where I focus on theater and dance. It's a lot of fun and very different from a public school. Our school has students from 3rd-12th grade and is considerably smaller than most public schools, so everybody knows everybody, everybody loves everybody else, and we all get to know our teachers personally, which is nice.
I am the kid that people stared at and made fun of in public school. Now, at my fine arts school, I'm loved. Here's what my day is like:
6 a.m.-7 a.m.: Wake up, apply makeup, put on uniform, brush hair, teeth, etc.
7 a.m.-8 a.m.: Drive to school. If late, get held up for another few minutes by high school English teacher with a stupid lecture about tardiness and punctuality.
8 a.m.-8:10 a.m.: Assembly
1st period: US History
2nd period: Science class, including more graphic details than are really necessary.
3rd period: English. A rather sarcastic class, if I do say so myself—of course, it's sarcastic BECAUSE of myself. I don't goof off in class, I make it interesting.
4th period: I change, and then head off to dance class!
Lunch: This is where we all gather into our little groups: The theater geeks congregate in a teacher's room to talk about our most awkward life moments, the latest script we are reading, the most wonderful play, and the best way to make ourselves faint. Don't ask why, we just do.
The art freaks gather in a small area in the corner of the lunch room and show off their latest sketches. The dancers gather in the theater room and do fouettes, splits, and other various dance moves. The instrumental kids go into the math room and play their instruments. This is where they make up songs about pink walruses, a purple platypus, and other things that make people think they are high, even though they're not. The choir kids go to the choir director's room and ask him random questions.
AND THEN you have people like myself who just wander from place to place, flirting with the occasional hottie, having debates with substitute teachers, and generally hanging out with everyone.
5th period: Health/Speech. It changes with the semester. I have health this time (blech.) For those of you who HAVEN'T taken a health class, it's as annoying as you might think it is, especially when your teacher has MPD (multiple personality disorder). She is pretty stable most of the time but there are days when it's not that great.
6th period: PE/Computer. This alternates daily, which is a pain in the neck to keep up with. As far as PE goes, it gets irritating when our coach treats it more like a health class than a PE class. Computer is considerably better, because we all like the teacher.
7th period: THEATER!! My absolute FAVORITE class of the day. It consists of reading scripts, playing improv games, watching films, and sometimes sewing costumes/making posters. Our teacher is amazing. She is sarcastic, has a sense of humor, actively makes fun of the news and media, and runs a great class.
8th period: Algebra. UGGHHHHHHHHH. This is my least favorite class. Our teacher is a moron who cannot even teach his subject. He has a masters in DIVINITY. Nothing in Algebra or anything pertaining to it. My mother had to explain to him what the square root of negative one is. A sophomore boy in high school can teach his class better than he can!
In review: My day consists of 15% learning, 35% debating with teachers in order to prove my point (with all of this practice, I do believe I'm getting good), 20% sarcastic comments, 20 fine arts, and 10% utter nonsense.
After reading all these "Day in the Life" posts, which kind of school would you like to go to?
