Weird Lyrics Your Parents Sang

"Owl City? Is that an exhibit at the zoo? MGMT? The studio with the lion? Panic! At the Disco? Ruuuuuunn!!!"

Yep, it's safe to say your parents don't understand today's music. Well, rest assured that their parents didn't get their music, either. And revisiting some of these classic 70s and 80s lyrics, we have to say we can't blame them:

"Blinded by the Light" was a 1977 remake of a Bruce Springstein song by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Sadly, the lead singer's e-nun-ci-a-tion was so poor, the refrain, "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night," sounded more like "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche," prompting thousands of people to wonder if Summer's Eve was radioactive.

The B-52's are a funky little band (fun-ky little band) known for their nonsensical songs and whacked-out retro style. Their 1989 hit "Love Shack" had moms and pops chanting, "Bang bang on the door baby/ Bang bang/ You're what?... Tin roof, rusted!" What? Yep. We don't know either.

When your parents heard the lyrics, "Line your feet astreet, bend your back,/ Shift your arm, then you pull a clock/ Like Sergeant O (Oh-Way-Oh)/ So strike a pose on a Cadillac" they walked like an Egyptian, thanks to the Bangles.

Transgender wonder Boy George's New Wave band, Culture Club, had a hit with 1983's "Karma Chameleon." His inspiration for the following lyrics is still unclear, but we think it may have something to do with this: "Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon/ You come and go, you come and go/ Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream/ Red gold and green, red gold and green"

As if Devo's candy apple crockery hats weren't weird enough, they gave the eighties these lyrics about...whipped cream? "When a problem comes along, you must whip it/ Before the cream sits out too long, you must whip it/ When something's going wrong, you must whip it." It's true about the cream sitting out too long, though. Yick.

What old song lyrics have you wondering about your parents' sanity?
