Re-Casting the Classics

Re-Casting the Classics

Have you ever wondered what your favorite old movies would be like if they were re-cast with today’s stars? Of course you haven’t. But maybe you should spend less time on that AP Language essay and more time pondering this question. Here’s your opportunity to make it up to us:

Gone With the Wind
The Original: Clark Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara

The Updated Version: Taylor Lautner (sex symbol/werewolf) and Zoe Saldana (gorgeous new “it” girl/sassy alien in Avatar) are perfect fits for the devastatingly attractive carpet-baggin’ cad Butler and the stunning, fiercely independent O’Hara.

Added Bonus: We could add a clause to his contract that requires Lautner to be shirtless for the entire film. And friends, it’s a loooonnnnggg movie.

Back to the Future
The Original: Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown

The Updated Version: Shia LeBouf (curly-haired goofy cutie) and Johnny Depp (some old guy you’ve never heard of—kidding zella!) would be a hilarious match-up as the immature but irrefutably adorable McFly and the brilliantly eccentric Doc in this lighthearted flick.

Added Bonus: Their collective hairstyles would be FANTASTIC. Plus, Shia would probably do a pretty phenomenal rendition of “Johnny B Goode.”

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Original: Robert Redford as the Sundance Kid and Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy

The Updated Version: Dwight Schrute and Michael Scott (from The Office) would be the most epic dream team ever to hit the big screen as this big-hearted, gun-slingin’, bank-robbin’ duo.

Added Bonus: It’s MICHAEL and DWIGHT. In COWBOY HATS. What more could anyone ask for?

Pride and Prejudice
The Original: Kiera Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew MacFayden as Mr. Darcy

The Updated Version: Emma Watson (feisty bookworm Hermoine Granger) and Ed Westwick (irresistibly charming scoundrel from the WB’s Gossip Girl) would KILL as the free-spirited, quick-witted Elizabeth and the handsome, egocentric Mr. Darcy.

Added Bonus: They’re both British. Which means their British accents should be fairly convincing.

Braveheart
The Original: Mel Gibson as William Wallace

The Updated Version: Picture this: Zac Efron in blue face paint, a v-neck, and Converses, crooning his way to victory over the English. We will bankroll this movie ourselves if we have to. That’s how much we believe in it.

Added Bonus: Just THINK of all the phenomenal musical numbers that would come out of this one. It’s enough to make us want to cry.

Spartacus
The Original: Kirk Douglas as Spartacus

The Updated Version: Danny DeVito would almost definitely be banned from theaters worldwide for his brazen, half-naked performance as the martyr of the millennium.

Added Bonus: Did you miss the part about Danny DeVito as Spartacus?

Twilight
The Original: Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan

The Updated Version: Justin Timberlake and Ellen DeGeneres. Enough said. Oscars, here we come.

Who would you cast in a remake of your favorite old movie?
