Who Dat! Five Awesome Moments from Superbowl XLIV
Last night, like every other red-blooded, football-loving American who also enjoys the sight of burly dudes in spandex pants trying to inflict brain injuries on each other, your SparkNotes editors tuned in to the SUPERBOWL—ready to watch the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints battling it out for championship bragging rights and a pretty pretty trophy.
Of course, you watched it too. Right?
...Right?
What?! You didn't watch the Superbowl?!! Why do you hate America? What do you mean, you “don't live in America”? YOU ARE LETTING THE TERRORISTS WIN!
No, no, we jest. But if you missed the game last night—whether because you don't live in the States, because you don't like football, or because you ate a bad chicken wing and spent the entire night in the bathroom—we've put together a list of the Top 5 Best Things That Happened During Superbowl XLIV. With video links, 'cause we love you.
Awesome thing #5: Saaaaaaacked.
Early in the second half, with the Colts leading 10—0, Saints quarterback Drew Brees takes a little too long and receives a swift takedown. Throughout the stadium, Saints fans can be heard smacking their foreheads and groaning in frustration.
Awesome thing #4: Lance Moore's upside-down ingenuity.
After scoring a hard-won touchdown and opening a five-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Saints tried to gain some additional insurance by running the ball for a two-point conversion. Seen in real time, Lance Moore appeared to bobble the ball, fall, and miss the catch. Seen in slo-mo review, however, it turned out that Lance Moore not only caught the ball, but maneuvered it over the goal line while upside down and falling. Holy. Crap.
Awesome thing #3: The Google “Paris” commercial.
This adorable advert was absolutely awww-inducing, and also a nice contrast to another group of vaguely sexist ads featuring unhappy dudes who hate their wives. Well played, Google. Well played.
Awesome thing #2: The Saints go marching in.
With three minutes left in the fourth and only one touchdown standing between the Colts and a tied game, Peyton Manning throws an easy pass... which is HOLYOMG INTERCEPTED BY TRACY PORTER AND OMG OMG OMG OMGAAAAAAHD TOUCHDOWN THE SAINTS ARE GOING TO WIN.
And finally, rounding out the list...
Awesome thing #1: Watching New Orleans celebrate.
You'd have to be a hardhearted sonofabee not to love this: The city of New Orleans, back on its feet and with its hands in the air, screaming and kissing and crying with pride for their Saints while spontaneous Who Dat cheers erupt from all sides and fans pour into the streets. Congrats, guys. You deserve it.
