Sparkler IPebble introduces us to a great movie, a funny book, AND about a million exciting bands. Thanks, IPebs! —SparkNotes editors
It’s rare to see a movie you really enjoy in that cheesy romance way (as opposed that that shriveled-up-in-a-corner-in-disgust way). It’s even rarer to see a great, cheesy romcom with the best soundtrack ever. But this movie exists! It happens to be British, it's made by Nickelodeon, and it's called Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (by this they mean: My Cat, Thongs, and Perfect Making Out), based on the book by Louise Rennison. Here are the six best songs on the all-around amazing soundtrack:
1. Girls and Boys in Love, The Rumble Strips
The lyrics are about drinking, falling in young love, and ditching everyone to be with your SO.
2. Mad About the Boy, Ava Leigh
This singer’s name is enviable, and her voice is great. "Mad About the Song" is an upbeat reggae-style number, great for background music. The lyrics are easy to sing to. And there’s a lot of love going around… “I love him, I love him, I love him, I love him…”
3. She’s So Lovely, Scouting for Girls
This is a great feel-good song, especially if you pretend it’s about you. If you’re feeling like you bombed your math final, listen to it, and feel pretty (or fit, for those who understand British English). It works every time.
4. The Show, Lenka
“I’m just a little bit caught in the middle, life is a maze and love is a riddle…” and there’s nothing more to it. This song is perfect for confused people. You can cry to it ( I have), you can laugh during it, and you can sing it and not sound too bad, even if you have been cursed with a voice like mine.
5. Ultraviolet, The Stiff Dylans
Their name is a little…questionable (although that could just be me; I turn anything into a dirty joke). However, the band is amazing, and by the end of the song, you’ll be sitting there wishing they would personally serenade you. No joke.
6. Ever Fallen in Love, The Stiff Dylans
This has to be the best song in the movie. Yes, it’s about falling in love. It is getting close to Valentine’s Day after all…so go “fall in love with someone you shouldn’t fall in love with…”
Who else is dying to see the movie and read the book??
