2009 was an amazing year for viral videos! From unplanned, honest moments to choreographed routines, we watched—then immediately shared—an astounding amount of goodness. And just in case you weren't paying attention to your Facebook feed, or failed to get on the right email chain, we've collected the 10 best vids of 2009. Enjoy!
10. All the Single Babies: Beyoncé had one of the biggest hits of the year...and this baby is totally feeling the video for "All the Single Ladies." Rock that diaper!
9. Susan Boyle's Performance on "Britain's Got Talent": When the less-than-glamorous Boyle walked out on that giant stage, who would have thought that she would belt out a tune that would capture the world. Her performance and subsequent rise to fame is the stuff of fairy tales. And her song choice couldn't have been any more apt: "I Dreamed a Dream," from Les Misérables. This video racked up the year's most views, more than 120 million!
8. Keyboard Cat: What would a viral video "Best Of" list be without cats? This year we met the Keyboard Cat, a feline who adds humor to just about any situation. We most enjoyed this KC vid featuring a 2007 viral video of Miss Teen USA contestant, Caitlin Upton of South Carolina. But there are plenty of other variations.
7. JK Wedding Dance: It's not unusual to see people dancing at a wedding...but it is pretty rare to see a choreographed routine kicking off the ceremony. When Jill and Kevin tied the knot, their wedding party boogied and shimmied down the aisle. The video, which was the third most-watched with over 33 million views, even made its way onto mainstream TV: When Jim and Pam got married on "The Office," they did a JK Wedding Dance spoof.
6. Charlie Bit My Finger: Aww, kids are so cute and funny! Technically, "Charlie Bit My Finger" hit the webs in 2007, but since it reached a peak of popularity in 2009, we're including it in our list. Even though it's become the most watched video of all time (supposedly), for some reason it just never gets old—sort of like sticking your finger in your baby brother's mouth.
5. Kanye West at the VMAs: It's a shame to reward bad behavior. But for some reason, we just can't keep from watching the video of Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's win for "Best Female Video" at the MTV Music Video Awards. It's like watching a train wreck, over and over and over again.
4. Sasquatch Music Festival: You might have missed this one. It didn't quite reach the viral heights of Susan Boyle, but it's well worth checking out. It begins with just one guy dancing at the Sasquatch Music Festival. He would be just some weirdo...except his enthusiasm and joy sparks a giant dance party! We can't imagine a better way to enjoy a summer music fest.
3. Twilight: New Moon Trailer: Fine. We'll give it to Twilight: New Moon. It was highly anticipated. This trailer was viewed more than 31 million times (we're guessing there's more than one link, since this one only has 23 million), making it the fourth-most viewed of the year. Vampires rule, at least on YouTube.
2. Evian Babies: More babies! More dancing! And this time, the unknown viral video formula is complete with the addition of roller skates. But if you want to see a little kid who can bust a move without the help of CGI, check out this future b-boy.
1. David After Dentist: Have you ever been in a dream, but you thought that you might actually be awake? That's sort of what happened to David, except instead of dreaming, he was hopped up on anesthetics after visiting the dentist. In this video, which was the second-most viewed of the year, at 37 million, we see David test the limits of reality. "Is this real life?" he asks. It is real life, David, and the world is watching.
Did we miss anything amazing? Do us all a favor and tell us in the comments. After all, there's no such thing as too many viral vids.
