Every year, the LA Auto Show displays some of the coolest cars that will make their debut in 2010. They also debut concept cars, which are wildly imaginative vehicle prototypes that some lucky jerk could be driving in the year 2051.
For this year’s concept car design challenge, six ambitious automakers imagined a vehicle a teen might drive in the year 2030. The results ranged from the awesome to the bizarre, like a shape-shifting, DNA-reading ride, and a car that turns into a video game. The winner of the contest was Nissan’s VG2, a design for an electric-powered three-wheeler. We like these designs, but we think they missed a few components:
- An auto-dresser that would brush your teeth and wash your face. Perfect for when you're running late.
- A caffeine reader that would gauge how sleepy you are, then make you a frappuccino with the appropriate amount of coffee.
- Compact parking option, in which the car could fold up to the size of a keychain so you wouldn't have to waste time looking for a space.
- OBVIOUSLY, we'd want a car that would drive on bodies of water, duh.
- A car with a microwave should have been put out five years ago. What are you waiting for, Ford?
- They should totally bring back sidecars.
- A customizable horn option, so you could honk things like, "You jerk, stay in your lane!" or, "Hey baby, can I get some fries with that shake?"
- An eject button for annoying passengers.
- Forget flying, we want a car that teleports.
- A flux capacitor so we could go back to the future.
