As many of you Sparklers prepare for one of the best eating holidays in the history of man (otherwise know as Thanksgiving), we’d be remiss not to acknowledge the downside of the holiday season: awkward family gatherings.
Take comfort in the knowledge that awkward family moments are so universal that they're all over the internet, TV, and in many of the best books and plays ever written. Here’s a list our favorite awkward family situations:
1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Grizwold family epitomizes awkward. In this scene from the classic movie, senile Aunt Bethany spreads some Christmas joy and confusion.

3. Saturday Night Live's "Kissing Family"
You’ve heard of a loving family, but this family from an SNL skit proves that there is such a thing as too much love.
4. Oedipus the King learns some big news
In Sophocle’s classic Greek tragedy play, King Oedipus finds out his lady lover Queen Jocasta is actually his mother. Who can blame the guy for stabbing out his own eyes?
5. The Jon and Kate Plus 8 divorce
Divorce for any family is hard, but divorcing on national TV and news defines cringe-worthy.
