Types of Typists
Whether you're putting together a five-page research paper, updating your personal diary, or just instant messaging, your typing style can be as revealing as your taste in clothes. Are you a speed demon? Are you slow and methodical? Do you obsess over accuracy, or do you let the typos fall as they may, counting on spellcheck to smooth things out in the end? By conducting thousands, hundreds a handful of surveys, we've composed the following analysis of the most prevalent typing techniques. Read on to see what your style says about you:
Fast and dangerous
Typing is a game of speed, not accuracy. Spellng errrs, who cores! That's what the spell check is for. You're the type of person who would jump out of a plane and halfway down think, "Oh yeah, I probably should have strapped on that parachute!" T-bell and MickeyD's are your restaurants of choice, and you watch movies on fast forward. You've been known to cut your hair yourself; you don't mind if it's a little lopsided.
Loud but accurate
Each-and-every-single-word-is-a-tiny-masterpiece. After training for many long hours, you're now a typing expert—you never miss a comma, ever. And you press every key with such force that your parents bust you for staying up late online when they hear you typing. Because of your amazing dexterity, you can do that cool Daft Punk "Harder Better Faster Stronger" video thing.
Slow and steady
While your friends were learning how to touch type, you were busy making those scratch-away drawings where you put a pattern of colors underneath a layer of black crayon and then scratch a picture into the top layer. As a result, you now type only with your index fingers. It takes you a day or two just to type your five-page essays. And when chatting online, your friends will whip out half a dozen message before you finish just one. But it's cool; your lack of typing prowess has helped you develop a lot of patience. You practice meditation and make a delicious slow-cooked chili.
Free-spirited
Who says your pinkie fingers need to rest on "a" and the semicolon? Your hands feel no conventional restrictions as they flutter about the keyboard, guided only by the poetry of language. Right hand on the right—occasionally. But other times, it's on the left. Your carefree and expressive style finds its way into all aspects of your life. You're not overly concerned about mixing your peas with your potatoes, and you often wear mismatched socks.
Old-fashioned
Most of your classmates chat the night away online. But not you—because your pen and notebook don't connect to the webs. You like the feel of pen on paper and have convinced your English teacher that your refusal to type your essays is actually a show of solidarity with the masters of literature—after all, Shakespeare didn't have a laptop. You've been known to refer to your bff's house as "yonder kingdom," and you always practice good manners.
So, what sort of typing style do you use? Any techniques we missed?
