Happy 40th, Sesame Street!

Happy 40th, Sesame Street!

Did you watch Sesame Street when you were a kid? Of course you did! And here's the awesome thing:

So did we.

Sesame Street is clearly the greatest children's show ever. With a classic-characters-meet-pop-celebrities approach that helps keep things fresh and fun, the show has achieved an on-air immortality that most giant talking puppets only dream about. This year, Sesame Street is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. (That's right, y'all—Big Bird is as old as your parents.) So, in honor of our —and your—favorite childhood show, we've put together a list of five fabulous clips from around the web that feature Great Moments from the Street. Check it!

We always knew Feist was cool, with her catchy songs and her smoky, talky vocal stylings, but we officially fell in love when she showed up on Sesame Street to help us learn about counting to four.

Oscar the Grouch is our favorite, even though he's kind of a jerk. Here's the man himself (back when he was orange), singing “I Love Trash!”

Do you know the difference between “near” and “far”? Do you know what a muppet looks like when he's about to have an exercise-induced heart attack? Allow Grover to demonstrate.

In this hilarious outtake from his appearance on the show, Ricky Gervais sacks up and asks Elmo to explain, once and for all, the mystery of why he wears pajamas to bed when he's buck naked the rest of the time.

And, finally, a version of The Song of the Count that definitely didn't air on Sesame Street, but definitely did make us laugh so hard that we nearly died.

Do you have favorite moments from Sesame Street? Tell us in the comments!
