Thermochemistry Rap

Sparkler tawly31 and her friend Lior wrote this rap about thermochemistry. tawly31's (aka Danitte's) lines are in blue, and Lior's are in green. Enjoy! —SparkNotes editors

Danitte and Lior’s (Thermo)Dynamic Rap

Hey yo, Mrs. Silverberg,
I say it's gonna be ma year.
We be takin' semestered math,
and tutorin' our peers.
Listen up—it's grade 12.
We gonna do it right:
We gonna study in the day,
and a lil' sleep in the night.
Some night in October,
it's 11:03,
Lior calls me up at home
he say what bout chemistry?

Yo Danitte,
you missed class today.
We learned a thing called thermochemistray.
You know Delta H,
means "change" in enthalpy.
If you dont get it now,
How you gonna get into U of T?

Naw man, it's all good.
It's in the book, page 303.
N delta h times 1000
equals negative mc delta t.
But Lior, the endo/exo thermic thang...
you explain that to me, kay?
That stuff got me confusin'.
Think I was drawin' that day.

So you got this problem,
Iit says, "Solve for delta h sol."
We gotta plug in the formula
to find the kilojoules per mole.

We talkin' bout da energy,
the object has inside.
Translational, vibrational,
when particles randomly collide.
In translational, the energy
goes from one substance to anotha.
Temperature is the measurer,
Tell your dog and your brotha’.

Then there’s potential energy.
I say what’s the definition?
It’s the energy an object has
due to its position!!!!!

The Law of Conservation,
I’ll tell you free of cost.
When you go from state to state,
No energy is lost.

Steam burns hurt worse than H-TWO-O.
It gotz more potential energy.
PE goes up now,
But we can’t show you how,
This is on yo FST.

How does sweat cool you down?
There’s a formula you see:
H2O sweat on the left,
the same is on the right,
Only now is H2O (g).

There’s just one more thing,
It’s a law, made by Hess.
So beware.
Y’all take care.
Or ya notes’ll be a mess.

In every Hess’s Law problem,
there are 2 things you can do.
Flip the reactants and the products,
Or multiply sides 1 and 2.

That’s not all ya gotta know.
Y’all don’t forget about the rest.
But like I say it’s Thursday night,
I gotta study for a test.

YEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!
