Haiku! Bless You.

Haiku! Bless You.

One of our favorite kinds of poetry is haiku. And nooooo, it's not just because it's only three lines long. Okay, yes, maybe that's why. But anyway, it's a highly regarded form of Japanese verse. So lay off.

And what better way to express the joys and agonies of the already laconic young adult years than in haiku? A few poems inspired by teen milestones:

SAT in Haiku

Pencils down, books closed.

If I must take this again,

I will jump, I swear.

Prom in Haiku

This corsage clashes

With my dress, dude. Note to self:

Never ask best friend.

Chemistry Class in Haiku

Ouch. These goggles hurt.

Will they leave a mark upon

My face like raccoon?

Driver's Ed in Haiku

Around the cones I

Can do. But parallel park?

Guess I'll take the bus.

Crush in Haiku

O.M.G. O.M.F.G.

She waved at me! No wait.

Her friend is behind.

Graduation in Haiku

Shake hand, turn tassle.

Throw hat high into the air.

Now where will I land?

Watch out, Ellen Hopkins, we feel a verse novel coming on.
