The Friday Awards

The Friday Awards

If you're reading this, congratulations! You (probably, unless you go to one of those awesome late-start schools) survived your first week(s) of school!

But comments like raj101's in this post make us realize not all of you had a stellar start to the year. So, in honor of the wonderful raj101, we'd love it if all you Sparklers wrote the cruddiest thing that happened to you this school year in the comments. We'll collect a bunch of them from Twitter, Facebook, and here to make one grand cathartic, SPECIAL Friday Awards next week.

Now, on to the awards...

My weirdest school related dream was the one where my sister, my neighbors, and I (and everyone else, but they don't matter) got stuck in the school when a giant dog, about the size of Mighty Joe Young, came and attacked us. My whole dream was about how we all ended up getting killed one by one as the dog ate us. In the end it was just me and one of my neighbors and we thought the dog had left, so we were walking around, and then the dog starts growling form behind this giant bush that used to grow on the campus (seriously, it was as tall as a tree, and thicker.) and we had to run. I slipped into the school office, but she ran around to the side of it. There was that cliche scene where you see the shadow of the attack and hear the blood curdling scream, so I knew my neighbor was dead. Then the dog smashed his head in through the doors of the office and started growling and barking loudly, and I woke up.

AuriChan for this comment "explaining" the cover of New Moon...

To answer your flower question, I must go into English class mode where I make something from nothing.

*goes into English class mode*

The flower on the cover is actually very meaningfull (ha, ha ha). First of all, do you see the way it's upside down, and wilting? This represents Bella after Edward. Slowly wilting and dying inside. The flower is still not completely in peices, because of Jacob. You can tell that it can be saved (and will be saved, since it looks as if someone is holding it, and pulling it up), if put in water and near the sun. The question is, will Edward or Jacob be that sun? The colours of the cover also symbolise a lot. The black is the darkness, the mystery of the supernatural and the fate of all the characters. The darkness and lies that they all have to hide behind. The white, obviously represents the cold and pale vampires. The red symbolises represents were-wolves, since they emmit the most heat and red is a symbol of life, heat, and still running blood. Bella is caught in between.*

Thank you, thank you.

*Actually, after the first book, the covers make no sense. They are just made to look beautiful, with the red/white/black colours used in all of them. The traditional darkness and blood mixed with purity colours. Not very creative. In the first book, it was also mentioned how he caught her apple and held it out to her (like the hands). There is no mention about a flower, or ribbons and chess sets in the other books. It's just supposed to be pretty, and go with the first book.

And, on a related note, the Thanks for the Twilight/New Moon Answers to Dan's Pressing Questions Awards go to bloodcrazy, GabelineHouveltz, alligator003, ArgentSylva, and CinderellasDeath!

And finally, a Special SparkNotes Award goes out to the first person who can tell us how to make that amazing smiley-to-werewolf emoticon!
