Go to the Movies or Watch at Home?

Sparkler peaceonearth34 is at it again, and this time she's making us reconsider throwing away all our cash on movie tickets...hmmm. Enjoy! —SparkNotes Editors

Maybe it makes me weird, but I have yet to see Harry Potter 6. Why? I don't want to go to the movie theater.

I might be the only person who doesn't like to go to the movies. I normally wait for the DVD release instead. Sure, I feel a bit left out at school when people talk all about how awesome the movie was, but waiting has some really great benefits:

1. It's cheaper
Nothing sucks more than paying nine bucks to see a movie and then realizing that it's the worst film ever made. At a store, the movie costs about $5 to rent. That leaves you with four dollars left. What can you do with four dollars?
You can...

  • Buy a cup of coffee, so you can survive an all-nighter, so you can ace your final exam, so you can go to MIT.
  • Buy a lottery ticket. If you win it big, you have to give me half, because I gave you the advice.
  • Save a feeding mouse from the pet store. Those little guys are so cute. I can't believe they're sold for snake chow.
  • Buy a water gun and spray your sibling after s/he dries off from the shower. (I am not responsible if you get grounded.)
  • Buy iMunchies from the App store. Who doesn't want popcorn on their iPod/Phone?

2. Bathroom breaks
You're in the middle of "Orphan" at the movie theater, when you suddenly regret ordering a large soda instead of a small. When you come back, you have to ask everyone what happened when you were gone, and then they give you angry stares. Not so when you rent. You can just press the pause button and come back right where you stopped.

3. It's more comfortable
In the movie theater, you have to stay put in one little seat for two hours. This is especially annoying if you tend to fidget a lot. And then there's always a chance that some guy who appears to be on steroids will sit right in front of you. When you watch at home, you can unfold on your couch with a blanket and a toe warmer. You can't get much more comfortable then that.

4. Better snacks
In the movie theater, you have few snack choices, and they're all overpriced. At home, you can scoop some ice cream, which lasts much longer than a box of Milk Duds. Plus, you get unlimited refills.

5. No previews
At the movies, you normally have to sit through, like, 20 minutes of previews. At home, you can just press the main menu button and start the movie. Besides, have you seen the previews for some of these movies? Hollywood is running out of good ideas.

6. No annoying people
When I went to Harry Potter 5, I could barely understand the movie. Why? Because someone brought her baby, who was crying, and the mother was arguing with the woman in front of her, and the guy next to me was jabbering on his cell phone. I heard his conversation, too. He thought that he was watching Harry Potter 2. Give me a break.

7. It's not disgusting
I hate hate HATE going to a movie theater and seeing gum on the seats and soda on the floors. Eww. Who wants to sit on that? Not me. That's why I watch movies on my clean couch.

What do you prefer, watching a DVD at home or going to the movies?
