Awesome Thing of the Week

Awesome Thing of the Week

By Emily Winter

Sparklers, let's talk about feelings.

The start of a new school year brings on a whole lotta feelings. Namely:

1. Boredom, even at lunch. Lunch was so fun in grammar school! Now, no one gushes over Gushers, paints with peanut butter or flings bologna onto the cafeteria walls. (What is wrong with these people?!)

2. Intimidation. "Did everyone take an AP summer class called How to be a Real, Adult Human except me?" What, you didn't get the memo that juice boxes have been swapped for Perrier, and Lunchables are no longer en vogue?

3. Anxiety. When it seems like everyone in high school became suddenly sophisticated except you, you can't help but worry about whether you'll ever be able to grow up, be allowed to sit at a decent lunch table, and still have some fun.

Fear not, Sparklers! For all of you who find the transition from Arby's to arugula too daunting, allow us to introduce Fancy Fast Food.

Yes, this week's awesome thing isn't about party tricks or teen bloggers. It's about bridging the gap between childhood and adulthood. (Actually, it's about looking like an adult, but having all the fun of a kid.) Check out this Fancy Fast Food clip, in which a McDonald's meal is transformed into a high-end pile of mush that would have world-renowned chefs feeling jealous.

What do you think about the Fancy Fast Food collection? Awesome? Yucky? Let us know in the comments below! And if you're really inspired, follow one of the recipes and send us a pic or youtube clip of your work! Don't forget to have your friends taste test. You might just be the king/queen of the cafeteria after all...

As for last week, the craziest water slide ever, which was actually the craziest digital trick ever (well, maybe not craziest, but pretty close) got a 6.39 on the -10 to 10 Scale of Awesomeness, with points knocked off once it was confirmed that this wasn't, in fact, a real water slide. :-( We really wanted to believe it, too, even though our brains were telling us "No freaaaaaking way."

Have a look at the scale, and decide where Fancy Fast Food fits in!

Send pics or youtube clips of your Fancy Fast Food to contribute@sparknotes.com. As always, feel free to send us links to your favorite Awesome Things, too!
