Songs for the Remaining Sunny Days

Songs for the Remaining Sunny Days

By Matt_Hunziker

As we’ve noted recently, fall is coming fast. That means school, cooler weather, less sunlight, and (in our opinion) a long overdue return to long pants and sweaters. Of course, summer has been good to us with its summer crushes, summer jobs, and summer school (okay, that wasn't as good). Come January, there just won't be so many opportunities to flirt with cute guys/girls at a bonfire (unless you live in Australia). That’s why these last few sunny days deserve a musical salute.

XTC — “Senses Working Overtime”
With fewer sunny days left you might find yourself rushing to squeeze every picnic, party, and beach outing in at the last minute. XTC understands your feeling, except instead of their social lives working overtime, it’s their nervous systems.

Pavement — “Frontwards”
Pavement songs never sound so good as when you're driving around well after midnight in 85-degree heat. Unfortunately, that means that full enjoyment of “Frontwards” requires owning a car, preferably one where you’ve already blown out the speakers.

Lily Allen — “LDN”
No other song in the past several years has sounded this summery. And though the music is as perky as can be, the slightly less optimistic lyrics will jibe with anybody mentally preparing themselves for nine months of academic drudgery.

Weezer — “El Scorcho”
If you’ve been suffering through an unrequited summer crush, just about every Weezer song sounds like it’s been dedicated to your situation. Singing along with this at the top of your lungs might not solve things, but it will make you feel better.

M.I.A. — Sunshowers
You probably didn’t spend your summer living in a treetop rebel base, but who’s to say you can’t pretend? It just looks like so much fun. They even have pet monkeys!

How are you spending the remainder of summer break?
