Our latest band of the week comes courtesy of yet another yet another Sparkler recommendation. (Not bad, Sparklers. First you inspire the Band of the Week feature to begin with. Now you’re suggesting the great bands we should select. It’s all going according to plan!)
Taking a cue from a comment left by Sparkler Jakjack, we checked out the California indie pop duo Pomplamoose (not just our new band of the week, but also band name of the year) and were blown away. What can we tell you, whimsy does that to us.
Pomplamoose (we’re told it means “grapefruit” in French) matches Nataly Dawn’s shimmering vocals with Jack Conte’s often half-mad arrangements, with occasional bits of truly demented samples thrown in for good measure.
We liked every single song we heard (and loved the fun homemade videos), but we simply can’t get “Beat The Horse” out of our collective heads (and don’t want to).
Jakjack’s favorites, meanwhile, are “Hail Mary” and “Little Things.”
