The Slightly Obscure Playlist
Sparkler raj101 has a special knack for discovering music that's not quite on the mainstream radar. Hope you enjoy her playlist! —SparkNotes Editors
I love music that's unknown, and I love making it known. The following is a list of 5 songs that you probably don't have on your iPod, and may have never even heard before! Now, this wouldn't matter if these songs were terrible, but they're great. And if you haven't listened to them at least once, you're missing out. So here you are:
1.) "Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants" by Wild Beasts
The title of this track alone should make you want to triumph over impossible odds just to download it. (The band's name is pretty cool, too). This indie rock song features Hayden Thorpe's amazing vocal talent, as he hits notes in the falsetto range and then switches back to low notes in a heartbeat. This band is currently on tour too, so it's a good time to start listening.
2.) "Love Love Love" by The Mountain Goats
This band's lyrics are amazing. What makes this song stand apart is the different people and objects it references, including Sonny Liston and Crime and Punishment. It's a bittersweet song that you can listen to over and over again.
3.) "Going the Distance" by Cake
This song is just way too unique to not put on this list. It's the perfect song to blast while you're driving down a busy street, and a great song to play at parties (that is, if you're friends are open-minded).
4.) "Time to Pretend" by MGMT
This band may be more well-known than I thought. Nevertheless, Time to Pretend is a track you definitely need to download. It's practically impossible not to feel like a free-spirit while listening to this song. Dancing is inevitable.
5.) "Lullaby" by The Acorn
Once again, awesome band name. This song just has a way of getting to your emotions; I almost cried the first time I heard it. (Please, no jokes about me crying because it was a terrible song). Whenever you're feeling down or lonely and need a song to fall asleep to, this is the one.
What's on your playlist of lesser-known songs?
