Facebook: The Movie?

Facebook: The Movie?

There are plenty of awesome movies based on true stories: the classics "Rudy" and "Into the Wild" come readily to mind, and there are many, many more. But even in the money machine creative paradise known as Hollywood, not every real-life scenario can be successfully turned into cinema gold. So when we heard that plans were in the works to make a movie about Facebook, we were a little skeptical.

Sure, this movie's being written by drama king Aaron Sorkin (the pen behind "The West Wing" and "A Few Good Men"). And sure, the producers are looking to tap box office studs like Michael Cera ("Year One," "Nick and Nora's Playlist," "Arrested Development") and Shia LaBeouf ("Indiana Jones," "Transformers," "Holes") for the lead role of Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook creator, for those out of the know). But seriously, how good can a movie about an online social network be?

Well, funny you should ask, cause we've done some thinking about how this movie might play out. Here's how we think a typical scene might go:

Mark: Man, I wish there was a way we could put our yearbook online, you know what I mean, roomie?

Chris (co-founder and roommate): Yeah, it would be awesome if, like, we could each have our own website, but they'd all be interconnected and have the same format.

Dustin (co-founder and roommate): Oh, and what if you could leave people messages on their pages? Like yearbook signatures?

Mark: Mark likes this. [Mark gives thumbs up.]

Chris: Me too. I think this could be a great idea.

Mark: Mark is in the middle of a genius brainstorming session!

Dustin: Dude, why are you referring to yourself in the third person?

Mark: Mark completed the "What color are you?" quiz with the result Orange.

Chris: What are you talking about? Seriously, let's stay on topic here. So, if we have this online yearbook, would people be able to add photos and stuff?

Mark: Mark likes this. [Mark gives thumbs up.]

Dustin: All right, so we'd find a way to put photos on each page. What about decorating your own page? Like, should people be able to change the format or should it be consistent across the board?

Mark: Mark has commented on your idea.

Chris: OK, seriously, this is getting annoying. Would you please stop referring to yourself in the third person. It's creeping me out.

Mark: Mark is thinking about getting new roommates.

Dustin: Really, man? This is ridiculous.

Mark: Mark is losing his temper.

Chris: Yeah, well, I'm losing my patience for this crap. Do you want to participate in this project or not?

Mark: Mark has invited you to play Mafia Wars.

Dustin: You know what? I think that's a great idea. [Dustin punches Mark in the groin.]

Mark: Mark can feel his stomach in his neck! Mark is not sending Dustin good karma!

Scene fades.

So what do you think, would you want to see the Facebook movie? Or do you think you'll pass and wait for the DVD?
