Sparkler Iamem19 diaries her last day of high school in this post. How did your last day compare? —SparkNotes Editors
The last day of school is complete chaos, agreed? Whether it consists of trashing the school or doing a senior prank, the out-of-controlness of the last day is something I’ve always known. Students are already brain dead (although those ominous exams are still around the corner) and fully set for summer. Tans are appearing (whether genuine or fake bakes) and the female students are shedding their rule-following attire and adopting something a little more risqué. The seniors are especially rowdy, which works out for me. I was a senior this year.
My last day of high school was Thursday, June 11th, 2009. I remember it as if it happened a just over a week ago...oh right, it did.
The beginning of the day was a "calm before the storm" type deal. We sat around in classes vegetating and waiting for the final class bell to sound and pronounce us adults. We would no longer be high school students—a reality at the tip of our fingers. The teachers were full of angst. They knew we’d been plotting something, but what? They had no clue.
As the day progressed, the plan was put in action. Slowly, the chaos was being constructed. Our last class started preparing innocently, by blowing up balloons. Then, out came the silly string and noise makers. Students brought pots and pans with metal spoons.
We, the seniors, left class five minutes before the end of our high school careers with smiling faces. Some of us had costumes—Spiderman, a ghost from Pacman, and I had a T-Rex painted on my face.
We gathered in the cafeteria with our army of balloons, ready to invade the school. We began making noise, warning our fellow students and the authority that today was our day.
Finally, we set off running, the balloons invading every single hallway in the school. The noise was deafening. The other students rushed to the doors to watch our parade and pronounce us graduates. All of us were chanting, “Nah nah nah nah, hey, hey, goodbye!” The smiles on our faces as we trashed the school were priceless. Never will I forget the best day of my life.
We left the school and jumped into our vehicles, pumping our fists on the steering wheel, making the horn sound. People drove away with their friends sticking out of their windows and screaming in exaltation. No one would take this day away from us. We were the graduates of 2008-2009.
