Sparkler chocoflakken chimes in on the second part of our series about texters we could live without. (Here's Part I, in case you missed it.) Enjoy! —SparkNotes Editors
Face it, we all know at least one. Maybe you ARE one: the Over-Excited Texter.
You know who I mean. The one who's sooooooo excited to have a device that almost instantly sends messages that she abuses said device like a 7-year-old abuses Hannah Montana songs. There are several kinds of Over-Excited Texters:
The Excessive Abbreviator
(Aka the "idk, my bff jill" commercial girl)
This offender is one of most common types. Sure, we all like to shorten our words sometimes, right? But I'm talking about the people who abbreviate everything, to the point where you need a field manual to decipher their texts. Know what I have to say to them? TPN2LOTEAAWTON (These People Need to Lay Off the Excessive Abbreviating and Write Things Out Normally).
The Living Emoticon
These people are the ones who spend their days making up new emoticons and then using them in every text. Hey, I'm a fan of using :) when I'm happy, but do you really need to use :-$? What does that even mean? Is it happy? Grim? Slightly gassy from the cafeteria tacos? Someday, these habitual offenders will turn into living emoticons, their heads permanently turned sideways, their faces portraying only the specific set of expressions creatable on a keyboard. Watch out.
The Eternal Laugher
These can be the most annoying. Now we all like to show our appreciation for a funny joke or situation with a good haha, lmao, or even a rotfl once in while. But I'm now convinced that some people aren't really sure about the meaning of these fun little abbreviations (mostly preteen girls, but even normal, sensible people fall into this category sometimes, too).
These people like to add signs of their amusement to every message they send. Are they trying to seem cool? Or are they just that inarticulate? Note the following typical conversation, which takes place far too often:
Average Joe: what do we have for english homework?
Eternal Laugher: page 379 haha
Joey: thx... So are u going 2 the movies on friday?
EL: yeah LOL
Joey: nothing here is funny! what's going on? /:(
(Yeah, I used a weird emoticon. Don't judge me.)
What other types of offenders do you know? Are you one? Do you have
any funny stories about crazy texts?
