We'll have to wait until next year to find out what happens next, but the season finale of LOST offered a bunch of answers to our most burning questions, such as... (warning: spoilers ahead!)
Q: What the heck happened to Rose and Bernard?
A: Nothing. They're just chilling near the beach, wearing exceptionally tidy clothes.
Q: Who is Jacob?
A: He's just some random guy with well-manicured stubble. This was kind of a letdown. He could also be God. Or an angel. Still, it's kind of a letdown. (We were hoping he'd be a giant talking spider that could fly).
Q: What lies in the Shadow of the Statue?
A: Not sure. The answer was given in Spanish. So our guesses may still be correct.
Q: Can Juliet detonate a hydrogen bomb with a rock?
Yep.
Q: Who are the strange people onboard the Ajira Airway flight?
A: The "good guys."
Q: What is the statue?
A: It looks like a statue of Egyptian fertility goddess Tawaret. It could also be a very bad likeness of Jack.
Q: Can Jacob weave?
A: Yes.
Q: Are Hurley and Miles the best two characters on the show?
A: Without a doubt.
Q: What's so special about the survivors of Oceanic Air?
A: We're still not clear on this, but it seems that Jacob selected them for a specific purpose. And Hurley might be the key to everything.
Q: What is Ben's sign?
A: Pisces. (Though he might be lying.)
Q: Is the Island Eden?
A: It could be. There are many religious overtones in the show; it would make sense that the Island is a special, holy place were Jacob and his buddy hang out. Jacob invites people to the Island to prove a point, while his friend is looking for a loophole to perhaps leave the Island.
While we're glad to have some answers, we still have a bunch of questions to mull over during the coming months. Among the most pressing:
Q: What's in the guitar case?
A: It could be anything. We're hoping it's a tiny version of Locke's corpse or Walt.
Q: Why did Sun remain in the present, while Jack and the gang blasted to the past?
A: Probably to create some emotional tension that will result in a triumphant reunion between Sun and Jin. Or maybe Sun forgot her time-traveling passport.
Q: What's up with the shape-shifting Locke-a-like?
A: He's Jacob's buddy from the beginning of the episode, and we assume he's wearing a very convincing Locke mask.
Q: Can the smoke monster have children?
A: We hope the answer is yes. We presume the answer is no.
Q: Is Charles Widmore evil, or just wealthy and British?
A: He didn't play a big role in the finale, but hopefully we'll get more information next season. He could also be in the guitar case.
Q: What the hell happened to Claire?
A: We ask this not because we care about her character. (We don't). But the actress who plays Claire is probably sick and tired of having her friends ask her, "What's the deal with Claire?"
Q: Is Jack's dad dead?
A: Since Jacob's buddy has shape-shifted into Locke, he may have done the same to take the form of Dr. Shepard.
Q: Where's that immortal guy with the eye-patch and the Russian accent?
A: We miss him.
