Where's Baldo? Find Out on FRINGE!
If you’ve been watching FRINGE, you’ve probably noticed the occasional presence of the Observer, a random bald guy with no eyebrows, a vacant expression, and a seemingly endless supply of black suits and fedoras. Oh yeah, and he’s always hanging around when something weeeeeeird happens.
Spotting the Observer is one of the show’s peripheral thrills (you know, just in case the tiger-lizard hybrid, giant cold virus slugs, or Walter’s endless supply of crazy weren’t exciting enough for you). But after a whole season of shouting, “There he is!” whenever the Observer wanders by in the background, we're finding his appearances a bit… well, predictable. There he is, walking down the street. There he is, crossing the street. There he is, walking down and then crossing the street.
Yawn.
FRINGE is winding down its first season, and with just three episodes remaining before what’s sure to be a climactic finale, we would like to offer a few possibilities for spicing up Baldy’s remaining appearances on the show.
Episode 18: Midnight
Where’s Baldo: As Olivia and Peter dash across the street in hot pursuit of a suspect, a passing truck must swerve to avoid them. A pale hand extends from the driver’s side window with the middle finger raised. Walter says, “I haven’t been flipped the bird since I insulted Gorbachev’s mother in 1973!” The camera cuts to the truck, now stopped at a red light, and pans around to expose the driver’s face... It’s the Observer!
Episode 19: The Road Not Taken
Where’s Baldo: Olivia returns to FBI headquarters for a powwow with Charlie, hoping to get the critical information she needs in time to stop a horrific supernatural event. As they search the computer for answers, Homeland Security agent Philip Broyles suddenly shouts, “Good God, what IS THAT?!” The camera cuts to a nearby television, where the broadcast of a soccer game has been interrupted by the presence of a streaker on the field. The camera pans the screaming crowd, then zooms in on the face of the naked man who is sprinting down the goal line… It’s the Observer!
Episode 20: There’s More Than One of Everything
Where’s Baldo: A terrifying epidemic is plaguing the greater Boston area as Olivia, Astrid, Peter, and Walter work feverishly to develop an antidote that will save the human race. With time running out, Walter suddenly screams and holds aloft a beaker filled with a bright red liquid. "Is that—" says Olivia, when suddenly the wall beside them blows apart in a flurry of bricks and plaster. Standing in the rubble is a pale figure, which raises its arms and shouts, “Ohhhhh YEAH! It’s PATTERN TIME!” … It’s the Observer!
Have you spotted our pale, hairless friend in all of his appearances on FRINGE? Did last night’s episode make you scared to go to sleep? Tell us about it.
