Like you, we ignored that box at the top of our Facebook home page. You know, the one that said, "Changes to the Home page are coming soon." It was up there for, like, weeks and we all ignored it. But you should check it out. Facebook is getting a facelift!
The changes happened today, and so to help you out--'cause we know you're going to freak when you see that the status box is different--we're going to give you the lowdown:
No More Status Box: But wait! Before you go sending a text to your entire address book that says, "guess what i'm doing? oh, you can't cause fb sucks," look at what's replacing it. With the new "What's on your mind?" box, not only are you encouraged to tell your friends about your every waking thought, you'll also be able to show them evidence of any random acts that spring from those thoughts--with pics or videos that you'll be able to put directly into your feed. See, not so different. Just easier . . . and more inviting.
24/7 News Feed: Instead waiting the excruciating 10-15 minutes for your feed to refresh, the upgraded feed will be constant. You will receive updates about who's-hooking-up-with-whom and who-subsequently-broke-up-with-whom in a real-time, blow-by-blow stream. (And if you don't want to know who-broke-up-with-who, you can filter the feed. Then again, if you don't want to know this information, you're probably not on Facebook. Instead, you're probably living in a cabin in Wyoming, miles away from the nearest telephone.)
All pigs are equal...really: Until today's update, companies and public figures (Like The New York Times or Barack Obama) used Facebook Pages. But after today, these will look like individual profiles, complete with a wall and info that comes up in your news feed (like Obama-hooked-up-with-Michelle and The Times-broke-up-with-book-reviews). Now you'll be able see what's going one with "High School Musical"'s Troy, Gabriella, and Sharpay (or the publicists who write their feeds) all day long. And you can leave comments on Stewie Griffin's wall: "stewie! you're the coolest baby ever. now go needle brian."
So, what do you think? Are you loving or hating the changes? Any other changes that you'd like to see? Tell us in the comments.
