Our Favorite Fictional Cheerleaders
According to Molly Sims on Martha and this site, the new movie Fired Up (I’d call it a “film,” but just three days after the Oscars, that seems like kind of a slap in the Academy’s face), is based on the high school experience of the producer, Matthew Gross. This guy actually went to cheerleading camp thinking it would get him girls. If you follow that line of thinking, fellas, you'd lure in girls by professing a love for shopping, buying a Peekapoo puppy and dressing it in a sweater, and getting your period. Yeah, not so much.
Anyway…in honor of yet another so-bad-it's-amazing cheerleading movie, we've compiled a list of our favorite cheerleaders from the big and small screen (in no particular order, because we’re lazy):
1) Arianna (Cheri Oteri) and Craig (Will Ferrell) on Saturday Night Live… Go Spartans!
2) The original Buffy (Kristy Swanson)
3) Darcy Sears (Ali Larter), Varsity Blues’ whipped cream queen
4) Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari), American Beauty’s rose petal Lolita
5) Heroes’ Claire Bennett (Hayden Panettiere)… Save the cheerleader, save the world.
6) Kelly Kapowksi (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen) on Saved by the Bell
7) Leslie Miller (Amy Adams) in Drop Dead Gorgeous… Go Muskies!
8) Sparky Polastri (Ian Roberts) in Bring It On (although technically he’s a choreographer, not a cheerleader, because “cheerleaders are dancers who have gone retarded”—his words, people, not ours)
Have we forgotten any? Tell us in the comments!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
